July is when food output kicks into high gear. Harvesting is a daily job, with both Judy and me bringing in the bounty.
I talked last month about trying out a 2 leader system for the tomatoes. It’s working great. Here are some Brandywines just waiting to turn red. We are already picking, but the deluge is yet to come. Our raspberry harvest is slowing down. We’ve picked over 20 quarts. We were picking a quart a day but that’s now down to about a pint. Production will get strong again as fall approaches Here’s today’s harvest. Here are some new berries. I planted pole beans on July 16th, the day after I pulled the garlic from this bed. This late planting works very well. The beans seem to really like following the garlic. We can’t grow huge okra plants as they can in warmer areas, but we can still grow it. All our brassicas are doing well. We’ve harvested cauliflower, and cabbages are getting close to ready. We really like the herb anise hyssop. The plants we had were being crowded out in our old herb bed so we gave them some breathing room and they are thriving. Of course, the weeds love all the work I do to make them a home. I won’t say I’m ahead of the game this year, but I’m having good luck scalping the weeds in the path, then weeding the beds and throwing all those weeds into the path, which are then easy to rake up.And July here has been tolerable. We finally got significant rain and the garden is happy.
This all looks beautiful.
My zucchini harvest is abundant, so I do appreciate the recipes. I would also like to be entered in the tool giveaway. Thank you.
Garden looks great! What are you going to do with all that cabbage? I grow Rattlesnake pole beans on hog panels. I planted 4 rows about 50 ft long..
I have canned 107 pints, my neighbor picked and canned 80 quarts! I’ve sold 20 pounds and they are still blooming! Crazy!
