Pea season is just about over for us here in Wisconsin. Pea pods and snow peas are great served raw for snacking or in a salad. They also make a tasty appetizer or side dish when blistered in a cast iron frying pan.
Recipe:
1 T. Oil – I use olive oil
6-8 oz. fresh pea pods, washed, stemmed and dried
1 tsp. sesame seeds
Salt & Pepper to taste – red pepper flakes might make a great addition too!
Heat cast iron pan to medium hot. Add oil and peas, stirring constantly, for about 2 minutes. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and sauté /stir for another minute or two, until the peas are nicely blistered to your liking. Sprinkle with salt and pepper and serve. As my mother-in-law, who spoke all the languages, used to say – Bon manger!
I’d use GARLIC salt! 😉
I love the cobraheads! I have lots of garden tools but these 2 are the ones I use the most…the regular and the mini. I use them often to dig out weeds and they also work great to make a row cut out to plant seeds. Thanks for your great invention!
Hiya Judy, thanks for another great easy recipe. We’re here in New Zealand, freezing. But starting to plan next season’s garden goodies. I’ve never planted peas (don’t you just buy them frozen, next to the corn?), but I know how tasty they are fresh & yum to blister them up for a snack. Looking forward to spring, days are getting longer..
~ all the best, Onya
Claudia, that sounds good!
Thanks for the note, Onya. Yes, it sure is easy just to buy frozen peas but oh so much fun to throw the fresh pods in a hot pan and have yourself a yummy snack in a couple of minutes.
