When we first designed the CobraHead Long Handle, we wanted to make it as comfortable as possible for people to do their weeding while standing up. For that reason, we offer three different handle sizes. The handle lengths are 48″, 54″, and 60″, but actual tool length with the blade attached is 8 inches longer. Remember to keep that in mind if you’re measuring an existing hoe to use as a comparison.

Most gardeners will prefer the 54″ handle size. Gardeners 5’3″ and under may prefer the 48″ handle, and gardeners over 6’1″ may prefer the 60″ handle. In the photo below, Andy is 6’3″ holding a 60″ handle, Noel is about 5’11” holding a 54″ handle, and I’m 5’4″ holding a 48″ handle. I actually prefer using the 54″ length, but I’m on the edge of being comfortable using either size. Sometimes gardeners will opt for a longer handle size thinking they’ll have more reach in the garden, but if it’s too long, the extra weight and balance of the longer tool can become uncomfortable to use.
